Finally! The gallery wall in our guestroom urgently needed an update before our summer guests arrive. Last year I quickly hung some art and posters, but it was a mess and the colors didn’t match the warm(er) look I wanted for this room. When installing everything, I didn’t make a plan at all and just went for it. For this update I decided to start by defining a color palette: light pink, orange / brown and (electric) blue. And that’s where Poster Store came into the picture: they offered me to choose some posters and frames from their site! There were so many options to choose from, but I liked the idea of adding a botanical touch with some plant details, as well as some paint brush strokes that mirror the paintings on the wall.
Installing the belles affiches and frames was super easy: the quality of the frames is premium and the entire room smelled like a woodworking workshop: real wood! I just used classic nails to hang all frames, and a ruler & level, just to make sure all frames are aligned correctly. When making a mistake in hanging some of the frames, I didn’t mind adding some extra nails, filling the visible holes or covering them by another frame. This space is not a museum, but a guestroom in a home where we actually live, it can be imperfect, just like us.
For our guestroom I wanted the gallery wall to be able to grow over time: with more art, that goes around the corner, which is still empty!, and maybe some postcards, smaller artworks that can be added. A real mix & match of photos, prints, paintings, some of my own work, the photo series of my as a 2-year-old made by my papa. That’s why I didn’t want 100% the same frames but picked the Poster Store white frames and a few black ones as well. Especially because the walls are (still) white this gives a softer look than darker wooden frames.
Blue, orange, brown pink!
Somehow this feels so much lighter! The gallery wall still has a mismatch of different styles, but the pale pink and uniform color palette make that it works. I’m happy with the result! And what I like is that it gives room for change, additional art and even changing the posters from time to time! Good thing is, the posters abordables are all very affordable, so you can easily change them without breaking the bank.
In general I tend to go for bold artwork: but adding a few softer graphic prints, like this abstract one from Poster Store, in a generous 50x70cm, creates a softer look.
And no gallery wall is complete without a fun quote, like this one “Trust me, you can dance – Vodka”. Every time I see it, it makes me think of the TikTok “Wow you can really dance, boom boom boom” viral videos ^^
And as a bonus: with my code JOELIX55 you’ll get 55% off on all posters (except selection) and 10% off on frames. Applies to the base prices of the posters and is not cumulative on the promotions on the site. Code valid until July 28th 2022. Check out Poster Store here!
