This is probably one of the most anticipated blog posts I ever created. It's been eighteen months in the making and I'm super happy to finally (!) show you my new favorite room in our home: the new bathroom. When we made a new floor plan and design last year, we didn't know if the proportions and skylights and circles would work. But really: it's even better than we imagined: we love the very spacious and bright double shower, without a sticky shower curtain. And we really like that the simple shelf is large enough for our soap, but also for our guests'. What used to be the men's room of the factory, is now our new bright bathroom. This is the view when you enter the room:
In a pretty bathroom, I wanted pretty toothbrushes. By surprise I found a company called Bioseptyl that makes beautiful toothbrushes in my region the Oise! Apart from the nice colors (pink, grey, blue or mint) and black bristles, their best feature is the handle, that is made of 80% bioplastic made from corn starch. Once your brush is used up you can send it back to the Bioseptyl factory and they will be recycle it and turn it into new toothbrushes! I love my new La Belle Brosse! If you live in France, you can even get a toothbrush subscription and receive a new brush every month or season. Pas mal !
My dad hand-carved the wooden towel hooks:
When we moved into our home in 2004, I dreamed of an elephant grey bathroom in tadelakt with pink accessories. My Bathroom Pinterest board showed me that a bright white bathroom would be a better idea. With a few grey and pink accessories, like the Brabantia mineral pink bin:
And what about this Drye Hunee towel I won on Jon's Happy Mundane blog. It weaves together 11 (!) different pantones of yarn and it's super soft:
To keep the maximum amount of daylight coming in via the very large windows (3.80meter wide and 3 meters high), we "invented" a transparent ceiling. It was made of one giant sandwiched sheet of polycarbonate. Of course the 3.80m sheet didn't fit into our car so we hired a van to bring it home. We could have simply cut it in half, but it looks much better like this:
The Drye towel on another hand-carved hook:
And this is the view from the shower. Can you see that mosaic masterpiece on the tiled floor?
Another bathroom accessory that I've had for a long time (2001 or so): the Alessi cotton pad dispenser. It's such a mundane luxury to pick a cotton pad from this thing:
My #plantshelfie cacti made room for shower gel and soap, but I couldn't help but put a few aloë vera babies in our bathroom. I have no idea if they'll enjoy the damp room but we'll see. Their mother plant is very easy (and grew big!) so I hope they'll follow her lead 😉
The circle windows bring in some much needed extra daylight for the aloë vera:
And voilà, this is our new bathroom! We never expected it to be as luxurious as it is today and we also never expected it to take 18 months. But that's what happens when you do everything yourself from plumbing to electricity, painting, walls, floors and ceilings. The pictures from 18 months ago are pretty shocking: the mess! We're very happy that we are finally done with renovation stuff… at least for now 😉 bathroomrenovation

I know this sounds kind of weird but….I really want to come use your bathroom :) Love it and all the little details that you put into it. Especially your dad's wooden towel holders – those are so beautiful.
Hahaha that sounds like a cool plan! There's enough place for the 5 of you anyway ;)
Oh that was worth the time! It is beautiful! So light, and that double shower idea without shower curtin is genius!
I love it, really, well done!
Thanks Em, that's so kind! We really love it too :) Have a wonderful weekend!
Wat een prachtige foto's van jullie luxe badkamer!
Dankjewel Wim! Superdeluxe, we zijn er zo blij mee!
I have to agree with Jillian, I want to come use your bathroom. The best part (for me) is that you can do your laundry in the bathroom! OH MY! I would love this in my house. Everything about it is so soothing and calming. The light is perfect and I love that you have a little plant in the shower! I do too ;) Well done to you for getting all that done…I know it was a big job. Enjoy! xx
Thank you Jocelyn! We can hardly believe that it's finally done, but we're thrilled! Funny that you noticed the washing machine & dryer, it's so practical to do it here, I've never been a big fan of laundry rooms, although it may be easy if you have kids. Thank you for the kind words, I hope you'll enjoy the weekend :) xx
Gorgeous !!!! I can feel your excitement, I totally remember that feeling and it affirms that the old fashioned 'it's good to wait'! Such lovely details, including the tiles in shower (I look at these things everywhere I go haha), the hooks your dad carved, the round windows…congratulations lovely. M xx
Thanks Mel! It's true, it's good to wait, but so hard sometimes… Funny that you mention the tiles, they are the most affordable white tiles in this size (25x40cm) and pretty basic here in France. As we don't know how long we will live here, we didn't want to invest a fortune on fancy tiles. But they do the trick and are sleek and bright and have a nice satin gloss. We like them! Enjoy your holiday!! xx
I loved it. It´s beautiful
Thank you Ana! xx
This looks sooo good!!! Love to see that the towel found the PERFECT home!
Thank you so much Jon! I love the Drye towel a lot, it's so super soft and those colors <3
dear judith, thank you for this nice article. the bath looks great. it seems that every centimeter is made by an designer. the wooden teethbrushes are my personally hit! some days ago i saw a hightec mirror made by an google worker in it private time which has a invisible monitor in the mirror which gives you standard interface from smartphone device, like weather, time, location emails and messages.. that will fit in this bath too!
