I'm a terrible bakerella: I can completely mess up ready-made cupcakes from a box. And that's exactly what happened with these raspberry cupcakes. The topping should have been pale pink, fluffy and tasty. I added some red food pigment because I thought that would be fun and used fromage blanc in stead of fromage frais… The cupcakes turned out acid & bright… and tasted absolutely awful!
Even the white chocolate on top didn't taste good. Does that ever happen to you too?
Ummm…. all the time!!! I just made a disastrous set of mini apple pies. The crust shrunk, the filling did not cook down. I am going to try again today. But yes! I have baking/cooking disasters all the time. :)
With all the perfect food pictures we see every day it's almost intimidating to start baking ;o) Glad that I'm not the only one! Good luck with the mini apple pies today and let me know how they worked out!
Oh absolutely, I am no bakerella either and I am known among friends to bake cakes that do not rise at all (no matter how much yeast). Well, the only good muffins I ever did where done with the help of my special baker friend's help.
Well, at least they look nice ;-)
Haha, so good to know I'm not the only one, Stefania! Maybe we should start a Club of Disaster Bakerellas ;o) Do you have any success recipes to share?
Disasters are plenty, usually mine don't look good but taste alright. But yours look very pretty even if they didn't taste good!,
That reminds me that I should still try your tasty (and good looking!) arepas recipe! Hmmmm!!
At least they're pretty!
:o)
Story of my life. The first time I made cookies from an “easy-to-bake” mix, I didn't put enough space between them on the baking tray. So I ended up with one GIANT rectangular cookie.
Then I didn't realize I should take them out of the oven to cool as soon as I heard the bell. So I left them in there for a few more minutes and ended up with a giant burnt cookie.
A bakerella friend found this hilarious. “So you think when the bell rings, the oven magically goes from 175 to 0 degrees?” Eh… yes?
Hahahahahaa so hilarious, Deepa! The giant cookie happened to me once too. If you take it out of the oven in time, it's not so bad though ;o)
Oh I had a similar problem this week. Wanted to make pastel mini bundt cakes and they all turned out one color: brown. Was so disappointed. I tried to save them by adding some icing but nope… nothing. So they are not going to make it onto my blog. :) Only good thing, according to my husband they tasted good. He ate all!!! of them.
Hahahaaa so frustrating! But at least your husband got lucky! Happy weekend, Ana :o)
I think they look really cute tho!

Merci Trisha! Happy weekend!
But they look nice! I had a very similar experience one week ago – I was supposed to bring cake to my son's daycare for his birthday and asked my husband to buy a ready made muffin mix I could do in the morning. When I started I saw that he had bought the gluten free mix, then I put the wrong vegetable oil in it – all in all it tasted disgusting! And no time to get another mix because we had to leave RIGHT NOW! I was pretty embarassed to bring these muffins with me and his teachers are probably going to make fun of me for ages. Well, that's what I am. A terrible housewife. Luckily my husband is a very talented cook and baker!
Hahaha that makes 2 terrible housewives with talented cooking husbands :D Those ready-made-mixes always seem so easy but somehow can turn out disgusting… I think I need to find my go-to recipe. Does your husband has a successful baking recipe?
